Exploring the Remarkable Regenerative Patterns and Practices of the IETF
Kaliya Young, our Founding Partner, led a Summer of Protocols research project in 2024, Exploring the Remarkable Regenerative Patterns and Practices of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).
"Summer of Protocols is an ongoing research and evangelism effort that aims to catalyze broad interest in the study of protocols as a first-class concept for thinking about the world."
Having participated in a variety of standard organizations, we found some very unique, fascinating practices at the IETF that shed light on alignment and consensus building. This study of the protocol development processes at IETF allows us to gain insights and create new tooling for the many ecosystem projects we are working on.
Kaliya was invited to host an interactive workshop at the Project Liberty Summit (see the picture on the right) in November 2024, engaging with policy makers and technologists about how to build the future of the Internet by applying the pattern languages used to analyze the IETF.
You can download the first version of the research paper. If you are interested in working with us to turn the paper into more applicable and interactive formats, please reach out to Kaliya at kaliya@identitywoman.net.
